Declare Your Independence From Corporate Rule!

Posted on July 3, 2010

I was thinking about 4th of July. The day we celebrate our independence from the Kingdom of Britain.

Seems to me we need a new DAY  OF INDEPENDENCE from Big Business Corporate control.

We are Citizens NOT Consumers!

It is evident that corporations have taken over, that their ideology of profit over everything else is the corporate culture that many of us have had to work in. Live our daily lives in. It tries to seep into our lives at every turn. Desensitizing us to our emotions, our families, our real purpose in life.

150 years ago corporations we insignificant institutions. Now they have more power than governments. Here’s a documentary that will give you some big background on how Corporations rose to be more powerful than governments, how they have been able to use laws meant for individuals, how they hardly any taxes and more.

YouTube: The Corporation

To learn more about what corporations are:

A Constitutional amendment is needed to deny corporations personhood and thereby strip corporations of all constitutional rights conferred on them piecemeal by the Supreme Court over the decades. The Roberts Supreme Court upset the wrong precedent; it should have overturned the precedent giving human rights to a non-human entity, the corporation.

Corporations ARE NOT People!

Move to Amend.

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in
Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:

  • Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
  • Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our votes and participation count.
  • Protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate “preemption” actions by global, national, and state governments.

Fight Washington Corruption

Lobbyists and the big corporations they represent have run roughshod over our democracy for too long. That’s why, this year, people from across the country are joining together to force politicians to work for the rest of us.

Endorse this slate of ideas and join the other 98% of us–who don’t have lobbyists representing us in DC–to send a strong signal to candidates and elected officials that, this year, business as usual is over. FROM—

*Endorse this Pledge

  • Amend the Constitution to protect America from unlimited corporate spending on our elections by overturning the Supreme Court’s decision giving corporations the same First Amendment rights as people.
  • Pass the Fair Elections Now Act, providing public financing to candidates who are supported by small donors so they can compete with corporate-backed and self-funded candidates.
  • Pass legislation to end the overwhelming influence of corporate lobbyists by: prohibiting individuals from switching from corporate lobbying to government service, or vice-versa, within a 5-year period; stopping corporate lobbyists from giving gifts and providing free travel to government officials; and posting online the attendees and content of all meetings between lobbyists and government officials.
